There is something exciting about pulling a piece of mail out of the mailbox and your name being scrolled across the envelope. A handwritten letter is almost archaic, but there is something very personal about a handwritten note whether it be to inform you about news or simply to say hello. It’s so easy these days to jump online and send an email, send off a quick text, or pick up the phone and make a call. Go back to the basics and write a letter to a family member or friend and let them know you are thinking of them with a handwritten letter. Don’t know where to start? Keep reading!

Start by picking the perfect stationery, a cute notecard, a bright piece of paper, a funky patterned envelop. Once you choose your stationery, it is time to work from the outside in. Address your envelope with the return address in the upper left-hand corner and the address you are sending the letter to centered on the envelope. Next, it is time to move on to the letter itself. A friendly letter should have the date written on the top left-hand corner followed by the greeting or salutation below. Common salutations are Dear, Hello, or Greetings, but get creative and tailor your greeting to whomever you are writing to. Following the greeting is the body of your letter. The body is where you will really put your pen to paper and write whatever you wish to express to your recipient. Now that you have the majority of your letter complete, it is time to sign off. Start with a complimentary close such as Truly, Sincerely, or Cordially and no letter is complete without your signature!

We hope this blog has inspired you to put electronics aside and take some time to slow down and write to someone. Whether it be a family member or friend, a letter is a tangible piece that people can cherish.
